傳科所的基本功─對傳科人的期許之一

對於曾在北師範、師專或師院就讀的校友或服務的同仁，今年八月一日在北師歷史上是大事，因為學校升等為國立台北教育大學，簡稱北教大。校名少了師範二字，學校在組織架構與目的上也多所調整，不以師資培育為主要目標。新的領導團隊帶領，意味學校邁入新局。對於傳科所，儘管五年前第一屆的新生歡迎會、暑期戰鬥營猶歷歷在目，時光卻悄悄流過，眨眼間傳科所成立五年，進入成長階段了！
如無當年歐用生校長的鼎力支持，傳科所不可能創立；而成立以來篳路藍縷，劉所長及我可謂點滴在心頭。五年的時間不算短，從形成性評量或階段性任務角度來看都可檢視一番，我們擬定的目標達成了嗎？所上繳出什麼樣的成績單？在講行銷的年代，傳科所的特色或是所謂的「賣點」，又是什麼？
自成立之初，傳科所就有著與百年老店的北師不同的地方，其一，我們是第一個不以培養國小、幼稚園師資為目標的系所，而當時師院畢業生仍是就業保證，並沒有流浪教師。其二，傳科所學生在提論文計畫前得先通過教學設計、資訊實作、英文三科的資格考，是校內碩士班中唯一有此要求的。其三，所上安排服務課，內容包括所辦輪值及清掃所上教室等，這也是資格考的必需。所希望培養出全方位的人才，除具專業知能，更希望同學有品性、有服務奉獻的熱誠、懂得待人接物與應對進退之禮。這樣說來很空泛？具體的說，上課向老師問候，為老師備茶水或咖啡，學習認真、作業按時繳交、不遲到，如不克出席要請假等。幾年下來，所上同學大都知道在這除了要用功讀書，還要懂得做人做事的道理，這些，我們稱之為傳科所的基本功。
雖然練的功不太一樣，但我常從傳科所想到少林寺學藝練功的過程。小和尚清晨五點鐘就有跑山的早課，除了正式練功，平日掃地澆花是「掃把功」，手拿著竹掃把清掃偌大的少室山，是練穩固的下盤功。而登高自卑行遠字邇，灑掃與應對看來都是小事，但見微知著，此中有深意不可小覷。前些時候所上畢業生回來，我公出沒見著，後接該生電話，說許久未來，所上仍然窗明几淨、學弟妹彬彬有禮，同學在研究室用功 (我想那是在忙論文計畫或論文)，聽到畢業生這麼說頗感欣慰，因為那是平常狀態。
對所上大部分的新生，學期不是九月，而是七月開始，因為電腦戰鬥營七月就開鑼了。由於學生背景多元，我們設計戰鬥營充實或補強新生這方面的知能，此外，此課也是暖身，讓同學適應所上對課業的要求而及早調整自己的mindset，為秋季班的課程準備。同樣地，上戰鬥營的同學也應認真，如因故不能來請事前請假，不要遲到早退漫不經心。
朋友或想，戰鬥營的課程坊間電腦補習班也有，時間上可能更方便，所上何必多此一舉？本所戰鬥營有獨特目標，那是劉所長針對本所的需求及學生特色精心規劃，並由劉所長及學長姊親授。所上收的三千元是鼓勵同學踴躍出席的保證金，同學如出席、交作業等都在規定內，保證金全額退。每週三個上午的課程，劉老師及授課的學長姊沒有支領任何費用，純粹是自動奉獻的義工。老師及同學犧牲休閒來戰鬥營授課，其實蘊含了對學術理想的認同及對學弟妹的愛護心。
傳科所的基本功來自教育先進的建議，身為創所者的我將其彙整成形，但能持續迄今，則賴所上老師的支持與全所同學對此有共識。所上老師對於課業的要求是一致的，難得的是同學也願意配合這些理念與作法。幾位兼任老師常說本所學生尊師重道，這在上課專注的神情，以及下課會幫忙擦白板、幫老師換熱的茶水等事上就看得出。聽到旁人稱讚自己學生出色的表現，當老師的最大樂趣莫過於此了，真覺得天下英才而教之。更深一層，我想到教育轉化(transformation)的作用，希望經由師生切磋琢磨基本功，讓同學能習得一身好本領，脫胎換骨，不畏江湖風波險。
