所長的話#05：本所課程

90.6.15新生座談時，提到了本所修業要點規定每學期修課的上限是15學分，且不分在職或一般生。與國內許多研究所規定的修課上限12學分相較，我們的標準顯得較寬。我們這樣的規定不表示本所的課業輕鬆，而是相信學習有個別差異，也許有同學能勝任15個學分，故寧可放寬上限。本所現碩一的研究生中修到12個學分的僅有兩位，他們兩人是用功的全職生，但幾次都表示這學期累壞了！因為不只是上課，還要讀書、準備報告、寫作業。以美國為例，美國學期制的大學，大多規定研究生修9個學分就是full-time student，修課上限是12學分，超過此限要指導教授同意。而除了課堂時間，研究所階段每一個學分還要有2-3倍的研讀時間。
研究所教育不是普及教育，有其對學術與研究上的堅持與要求；再者，本所的性質是日間班，是為學術研究奠基，不同於進修推廣部開在夜晚、週末、暑期的在職教學碩士班。今年本所的14 名新生中 (1名辦了保留)，約有一半是在職生，我可以體諒在職生的辛苦，因為要兼顧工作與學業；但諸位要體認，就讀研究所是你的選擇，你要決定何者為主、何者為從。所以，提醒同學選課時要量力而為，此處的「力」不僅是指個人的能力，還包括了廣義的時間。尤其在職生，請評估你有多少時間可以投注在研究所的課業上？不要修了一堆課，應付不來，就和老師硬ㄠ。所裡的老師對於評量標準已有共識：我們會在學習過程中關心學生，但亦要求一定的水準，這方面我們不會放水的！
在排課方面，基於學習考量，原則上一天至多排五堂課。如果有同學以為我們在職生過半數了，所裡應該照我們的要求排課，比如最好一天半排完，從早上八點排到晚上十點，夜晚、週三下午也都要排。我在這兒要說，很抱歉，這樣的要求我們做不到。理由除了前述的學習考量，還要符合公平正義原則，因為也有同學是揮別職場、捨棄了薪水收入，專心來本所就讀的。
今年我們入學考不分一般生與在職生，除了避免有遺珠之憾，還有就是考量了現今碩一的三位在職生的表現，他們在勤學、努力、與同學相處方面，都做了最好的示範！
最後，建議諸位要開始調整學習的心態，考進本所不容易，接下來的日子少不了是忙碌與充實。諸位有任何疑問請隨時跟所裡反映，「禁於未發」，有小疑問就要解決，別忘了，你們有兩位學業學姐、七位生活學長姐，很樂於和大家分享他們的心得，可多向學長姐請教喔！
