傳科所期末盛宴之二

今年三月，本校教學發展中心發函各系所，要求擇期主辦以教師為對象的「教師專業成長」工作坊或研習，以達成「北二區教師成長」對所屬學校的要求。所務會議討論人選時，黃秀霜校長的名字第一個出現。我去電台南大學聯絡，才知南大本學期要接受評鑑中心的校務評鑑，這等大事除了全校總動員，校長的準備方向及定位更是攸關重大，其忙碌可想而知。後再問，如將演講時間安排在評鑑之後如何？獲得秀霜校長首肯。
願意撥空前來，除了我的力邀，主要是秀霜校長「念舊、重情義」，她對曾經服務過的北師及同事的那份感情。
由於四月初跟教育部申請Reigeluth的學術演講時間在六月一日，故上簽希望秀霜校長「教師專業成長」演講延後到六月第二週。但會計室不同意，要求系所一定要五月底以前完成，否則經費收回且系所該項工作績效是零。不得已，黃秀霜校長的演講只得排在5月31日，雖然已知同時間本校還有其他三個系也有類似活動。
這是秀霜校長第二次蒞臨本所演講，上次她來演講是五年前，題目為「研究倫理相關議題」。題目是我們討論後決定，我想以她曾在教育部學審會服務、在英國獲博士學位、美國耶魯訪問學者等資歷，是演講此主題的最佳人選。果然，那次演講師生都獲益良多。
5/31下午演講前，林新發校長特別到所上向黃校長致意並贈送紀念品。秀霜校長說：「只要是北師的邀約，再忙我都會來」。後來才知，秀霜校長這一年為全力準備校務評鑑，校外演講邀約大都婉拒。
秀霜校長1993年曾在北師初教系服務一年，當時我擔任初教系系主任，秀霜的幹練與聰敏即已顯現大將之才。很可惜我們共事的時間僅一年，因其夫婿承諾母校成大師長返校服務，捨北部教職及一級主管行政兼職；秀霜老師「夫唱婦隨」舉家南遷，轉到到南師特教系，後到初教系。到南師未久即應吳鐵雄校長之邀出任主秘，後黃政傑校長掌南師，一樣請嫻熟行政、處事圓融的她幫忙，從主秘、教務長到副校長，她都做得有聲有色。
在校門口到所上的路上，我跟秀霜校長抱歉，因為同時間校內共有四場「教師成長」演講，還有老師出國；而學生多以為這活動是給老師的，故恐怕聽眾不多。秀霜校長很體諒，演講一開始就請問在場同學就讀的學系，都是大學部兒英系及特教系的同學，她將演講內容略做調整，將重點放在生涯規劃及成長，舉例也以這兩系相關的為主。她談到無論任何工作，專業成長不僅是工作的表現、進修，還包括了婚姻、理財與休閒，應是全方位的。演講內容提到設定目標，秀霜校長提醒在場同學，因為我們的想法及客觀環境都會改變，故目標並非一成不變，要即時調整。她並以自身為例，約六年前，她值教授休假在柏克萊加大，春天接到南大黃政傑校長的電話，希望她休假回來繼續擔任行政，並負責該校的追求卓越計畫申請案。秀霜校長說，那時已排定了全家出遊的行程，旅遊給了她充分的時間思索，回來後與家人討論，休假返校後是否要繼續兼行政工作？因她原先的目標是當學者。在先生及家人的鼓勵與支持下，她調整方向，答應校長接行政。果然，休假回來做行政更得心應手，後在各方敦促、推薦之下，眾望所歸遴選為南大校長。
秀霜校長是「做啥、像啥」的最好範例，工作上的耀眼表現，大家有目共睹；其他的角色，無論為女兒、母親、妻子、朋友都恰如其份，非常難得。我唯一的小小遺憾是這麼精彩、內容豐富的演講，應該有更多的朋友聆聽、參與討論。
